TheBritish Indian Ocean Territory(BIOT) is anoverseas territoryof theUnited Kingdomsituated in theIndian Oceanhalfway betweenTanzaniaandIndonesia. The territory comprises the sevenatollsof theChagos Archipelagowith over 1,000 individual islands– many very small– amounting to a total land area of 60 square kilometres (23sqmi).
It is one of only two British territories that drivesautomobileson the right side of the road, the other beingGibraltar. This has been said to be because the territory was previously occupied by the French, but France ceded the islands to the UK long before the invention of the automobile.
This tropical paradise of beautifulbeaches,it is renowned for itsstunning sunsets, breathtaking scenery, awesome surf, and pristine rain forests.
